Will my child be eligible for NDIS support and what will that mean? From our experience with the NDIS in the ACT we expect the vast majority of children in one of our programs – past and present – to be eligible. We will be in contact with you closer to the date to discuss your individual situation. For more information about eligibility please click here.
Being on the NDIS means you will receive benefits such as:
- The current services your child receives from The Shepherd Centre will be funded
- Additional services from The Shepherd Centre for example, support for children in school, will become available to you
- You will no longer need to pay any membership fees to The Shepherd Centre
- Your child may be eligible for additional services or equipment that would help further their development
What happens before the NDIS or if my child is not eligible for NDIS support? The Shepherd Centre will continue to provide our support to your child, exactly as you are eligible for now. We will not introduce any new costs for children who aren’t eligible for the NDIS (such as refugee children), although membership fees will continue.
What do I need to do now? Nothing – you do not need to take any action at this stage. We will provide you with further information as the NDIS roll-out gets to your area.
If you have any questions, or would like to discuss what will be changing with the NDIS, please email our Principal Manager of Listening & Spoken Language Therapy, Sharon Baldacchino, at [email protected].
