Appointed CEO of The Shepherd Centre in February 2011, Dr Jim Hungerford comes to the role with 30 years’ experience in health sciences. Prior to joining The Shepherd Centre, Jim held CEO positions in Australia and internationally, most recently CEO of Pareto Fundraising. Jim’s prior roles include CEO of Intervet in the United Kingdom, various senior management positions in companies in Germany and in the United States, as well as positions in the biotechnology sector and as a Veterinarian in private practice.

      Aleisha is General Manager, Director of Clinical Programs and a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist and practicing Speech Pathologist. Aleisha joined The Shepherd Centre in 2003 after completing her Masters in Applied Linguistics at Cambridge University in the UK. Aleisha leads the Senior Clinical team to implement the programs across the centres, through the cross matrix multidisciplinary team of Listening & Spoken Language Specialists, Child & Family Counsellors and Researchers & Assessors. Aleisha is currently undertaking her PhD through Macquarie University and the Hearing CRC on Language Acquisition in Children’s Hearing Loss and is looking forward to this contributing to improved intervention technologies and strategies for progression, and an evidence base for parents to guide their decision making. Aleisha received the 2016 State Finalist Award for leadership in the 2016 NSW Business Chamber Awards. This prestigious award recognizes Aleisha’s leadership in the field of childhood hearing loss, particularly her strong work in research and clinical practice, reflecting her passionate commitment to providing the best outcomes for children and families living with hearing loss.

        Sharon is the Director of our Listening & Spoken Language Services and has been a practicing Speech Pathologist with children with disabilities for 20 years. Sharon was previously the Principal Manager Listening and Spoken Language Therapist at The Shepherd Centre. She leads the Senior Clinical team of Listening & Spoken Language Specialists, Child & Family Counsellors and Audiologists to implement programs across the centres. Sharon has a strong interest in public health and policy and completed her Masters of Health & International Development in 2006. She has worked for a number of national and international non-government organisations including Australian Red Cross & UNICEF. Her expertise in policy is being utilised through the lead out of the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme for the organisation. Clinically, Sharon continues to have a special interest in the use of technology for children with communication difficulties.

          Sandra joined The Shepherd Centre in February 2015 as Director of Operations and Company Secretary. Sandra is responsible for finance, human resources, information technology and systems management, facilities management, risk management and the direction of our Preschool Program. Sandra is a Chartered Accountant having completed her undergraduate degree at Macquarie University and commencing her accounting career in with Ernst and Young and then Grant Thornton. Sandra’s corporate finance roles have included Gucci (in the UK), Panavision Australia Pty Limited and more recently Free TV Australia Limited where she was Director of Finance and Company Secretary.

              Danielle Lam is the Senior Listening and Spoken Language Manager at The Shepherd Centre based in Wollongong. Danielle manages the LSL team in Wollongong and has a keen interest in equity of access to service for all families. This interest led to Project Coordination of Rural & Remote Residential Workshop Programs across NSW for many years, and now Teleintervention Manager for families accessing the service from regional and remote areas of NSW and Tasmania.  Danielle is a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist and Speech Pathologist, and has a key role in the training and mentoring of Listening and Spoken Language Therapists toward their professional certification. Prior to joining The Shepherd Centre, Danielle has worked as a Speech Pathologist in a variety of community health and hospital settings.

                Ha Thanh Wojcik

                Ha is a certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist, Manager at The Shepherd Centre, Casula and a practicing Speech Pathologist. She joined The Shepherd Centre in 2011 after completing her degree in Speech Pathology at the University of Sydney where she developed a love for working with children and families. She has worked across the Wollongong, Sydney and Liverpool centres and is passionate about building relationships with other organisations and people to support children in the local community. Being bilingual, Ha provides Auditory Verbal Therapy to  families in English and Vietnamese and supports the clinical staff in the Casula centre on a day to day basis. Working alongside families and celebrating their triumphs (big or small) has been the most rewarding part of her job.

                  Jenna graduated from a Bachelor of Speech Pathology with Honours from Flinders University in 2009 when she then worked in early intervention in Mildura with children and families with a range of disabilities. After moving back to her hometown of Adelaide she began working with children with sensory impairment (vision and hearing) and developed a strong interest in how children with hearing loss develop listening and spoken language skills. Jenna moved to Canberra at the start of 2013 and started work with The Shepherd Centre which she says is her ‘dream job’. At The Shepherd Centre she has undertaken many different roles over the past three years while focusing on growth and development of the Canberra centre. Jenna is currently the Manager of Listening and Spoken Language for Canberra. Her areas of interest include supporting children and young adults to become confident conversationalists. She is also passionate about working with children to develop theory of mind and has a special interest in teaching others about hearing loss/parent guiding and coaching.

                    Joanna McAdam is the Listening and Spoken Language Specialist Manager at The Shepherd Centre at the Australian Hearing Hub and is a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist and practicing Speech Pathologist. Joanna joined The Shepherd Centre in 2007 after completing her Masters of Speech and Language Pathology at Macquarie University. Joanna feels very proud to work in an environment that supports each family’s vision for their child while continually breaking new ground in supporting children with hearing loss.

                      Renée joined The Shepherd Centre in January 2012 and is the Senior Child & Family Counsellor. Renée is the manager of the Child and Family Counselling Team. The Child and Family Counselling Team provide support to families around the diagnosis of their child’s hearing loss and throughout their journey at The Shepherd Centre. Renée is a qualified social worker with a graduate certificate in management. Renée has extensive experience in Hospital Social Work, in the areas of Maternity, Paediatrics and Neonatal Care. Renée has worked in Australia and the UK in a range of family support services, disability and early intervention programs in both government and non-government sectors. Renée also worked in the field of International Development for The European Children’s Trust in Kosovo.

                            2014 marks 40 years in the field of working with children with hearing loss. Anne was Introduced into the field as a tutor to Dr Bruce Shepherd’s two children with profound hearing loss while completing BADipEd in Maths, Education and Psychology at Macquarie.

                            She was awarded a Rotary Postgraduate scholarship to complete Masters Degree in Speech and Hearing Loss at Smith College/Clarke School, Massachusetts. In 2012 she completed her PhD: “Speaking for Themselves: Speech Outcomes of Auditory-Verbal Children with Early-Identified Severe/Profound Hearing Loss”.

                              Yetta is the Audiological Director of First Sounds Implant Program at The Shepherd Centre, overseeing all the audiological services at our centres. She completed her Masters in Clinical Audiology at Macquarie University researching Late Auditory Responses in School-Aged Children. She has a background in diagnostic audiology and has worked with cochlear implants for over eleven years. Along with a keen interest in research, Yetta has lectured at a university level for over seven years and  prior to starting at The Shepherd Centre in 2008, held the position of Audiology Discipline Specialist in the Speech Pathology Department at the University of Sydney in 2008 and 2009.

                                Sharlene Dadd, a past parent of The Shepherd Centre, is so grateful for the services provided to her family. With a BA from Sydney University and an extensive background in business tourism and the food/wine sector, Sharlene returned to The Shepherd Centre in 2014 to work on grant funding submissions and now is responsible for the establishment and management of the centre’s Alumni and Legacy programs.

                                  Joanne is Direct Marketing and Donor Services Manager working within the Fundraising and Communications department, she joined The Shepherd Centre in 2013. Joanne and her team work to recruit new donors to support the vital work of The Shepherd Centre and also regularly update our existing donors on how their donations make a difference to children with hearing loss.

                                      In 2011, Berthe joined the organisation to secure support from various institutions such as trusts, foundations, philanthropic organisations and corporate sponsorships.

                                      Berthe also manages The Shepherd Centre’s interests in relation to government funding cycles and coordinates submissions and acquittals.

                                        Alyshia began her career in the not for profit sector at Royal Blind Society, where she discovered a passion for using data to inform business decisions – this has guided her career ever since. Joining The Shepherd Centre in April 2011, Alyshia was tasked with the implementation of a fundraising and a clinical database to support the business. She acted as project manager for the clinical database, working closely with expert clinical staff to develop and launch the software in August 2012. Today Alyshia is responsible for information, databases and quality assurances, and is an integral part of the clinical and fundraising teams.

                                          Sharon has been with The Shepherd Centre since 2009. Sharon’s role is to manage the clinical administration team, co-ordinate support services for children and families who come to The Shepherd Centre and is instrumental in the successful running of the Residential Workshops. Sharon also performs the role of assistant to the Director of Clinical Programs and the Principal Listening & Spoken Language Specialists.
