The Newtown based not-for-profit provides therapy, services and workshops to ensure kids who are deaf and hearing impaired can achieve the best possible listening and speaking outcomes, as well as supporting the community around the child to aid in their development.

Dr Jim Hungerford, CEO of The Shepherd Centre, says that the he was honoured that both he and the organisation were recognised for their hard, yet rewarding, work.

‘The children and families we support are our primary focus and, collectively as a team, we are passionate about ensuring that all children with hearing loss have the best possible start in life. For myself and the organisation to be recognised among some of the City of Sydney’s brightest businesses is truly humbling,’ said Dr Hungerford.

‘I see the innovation and dedication that goes on behind the scenes at our organisation and also the warmth and care of our service. This has led to us offering some of the best outcomes in the world in terms of speech and language for children with hearing loss. Like many charities, we’ve been thrown incredible challenges particularly of late with the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). We’ve worked tirelessly with other organisations in our sector as well as with government leaders to ensure that children with hearing loss are adequately funded and supported.’

As finalists, Dr Jim Hungerford and The Shepherd Centre will now compete at the NSW Business Chamber State Awards to be held at Luna Park on Friday 23rd November 2018. A full list of winners can be found at:
