Yesterday Newtown Centre was buzzing with excitement as we held our Kidscape Reunion and revealed the centre’s brand new cubby!
The cubby was built by the marvellous team of tradies at hipages, a popular Australian online company that provides trusted, qualified tradies for home renovations.
They held a nationwide competition last December inviting children across Australia to submit a drawing of their dream cubby, which they then assembled for children of The Shepherd Centre.
Seven-year old Tayla from Victoria came in first place with her beautiful drawing of a bright yellow castle covered in green vines and topped with pink hearts.
The construction of the cubby proved a fun challenge for the hipages team, transforming a child’s vivid imagination into a tangible, realistic building.
As the team brought the drawing to the life, they worked with our clinical staff to add an array of toys specifically for children with hearing loss, including drums, tambourines, a megaphone, a shop window, puppet theatre, letterbox and more. These wonderful additions will help children develop and expand their listening, speaking, social and communication skills. A big thank you to the hipages team for their fantastic work!
It was lovely to see the many families who came to the Kidscape Reunion for the unveiling of ‘The Royal Palace of Mischief and Magic’; the children were thrilled when the curtains were drawn back and they saw the latest addition to Newtown centre’s playground.
The cubby will also provide a warm welcoming space for our families to come together, connect and share the journey of raising children with hearing loss.
