I started to notice my son saying ‘what?’ a lot, and it made me concerned about his hearing. That’s when I reached out to The Shepherd Centre for a hearing test.
From the very start, the team was incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. They guided both me and my son through the process, explaining what to expect in a way that made us feel comfortable. When the results came in, they took the time to go through them with kindness and clarity.
Q. How long does a hearing test take?
We allow 45 mins to perform a hearing assessment for your child. Our Audiologists work at a variable pace to ensure accurate results depending on your child’s age and development.
Q. Do I need a referral from a GP?
While a GP referral is not required to book a hearing test, it is necessary if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate. If you’re unsure about the process or need guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Our team is more than happy to help.
Q. Can I stay with my child during the test?
Absolutely! We encourage parents to stay with their child throughout the test. Having a familiar face in the room can help your child feel more at ease, and we want you to feel informed and comfortable throughout the process.
Q. When will I get the results?
Once the test is complete at the time of the assessment, our audiologists will go through the findings with you in clear, simple language and discuss any next steps, should they be necessary. You’ll also receive a written summary report after the assessment, so you’ll have all the information you need to make informed decisions about your child’s hearing and care.
Q. What if the results show a hearing issue?
If any hearing concerns are identified, our team will provide you with a detailed explanation and guide you through the next steps. Depending on the results, this could include further assessments, or referrals to specialists. Our goal is to give you clarity and support in addressing any hearing issues.
Q. Can a hearing test detect all hearing problems?
Our hearing tests are designed to identify most hearing issues, but some conditions may require additional testing or consultation with specialists. If we detect any irregularities or concerns, we will discuss them with you and suggest the appropriate next steps to ensure your child’s needs are fully met.
Q. What if my child is nervous or unsure about the test?
It’s completely natural for children to feel nervous before a hearing test, and we understand that every child is different. Our experienced audiologists are skilled in creating a calm and friendly environment to help ease any concerns. If your child is particularly nervous, please let us know ahead of time, and we’ll adjust the approach to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
Q. How does the hearing test work for young children or babies?
For younger children or babies, we use tailored, age-appropriate techniques that make the test feel more like play. Our audiologists use fun and engaging methods to test hearing while ensuring accuracy.
Q. What is the cost of a hearing test?
A comprehensive hearing test costs $200. If you have a GP referral, you may be eligible for a partial Medicare rebate.
