Elaine’s Story

Elaine Lillian Bobbin was a very loved and generous woman.

Elaine passed away on 11th September 2019. Her son, Peter shared her story with us:

“Though of very little means, Elaine was a great contributor to charity.

My mother was a woman of towering strength. She raised four boys on her own, my father leaving our family when I was 5 – he passed away when I was 11.

Though alone, my mother made a family – we boys celebrated her on both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day!

A truly remarkable woman who simply got on with life, giving of herself to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She rejoiced in the simplicity of life.

A hug was to be given and taken. A smile was to be always offered. Life was to be embraced.

Two and a half years ago my mother was given mere months to live. But we had two and a half years of laughter, hugs, kisses and cries. We embraced our time together.’

A supporter of The Shepherd Centre for 15 years, Elaine made the incredibly generous decision to remember us in her Will. Peter assured me that ‘she would have given more’, but she wanted to ensure her 15 grandchildren each received a gift. Of course, family and friends must always come first and at The Shepherd Centre, we are truly grateful for every gift.

Elaine’s legacy as a generous and kind-hearted person continues through her gift which will ensure that children with hearing loss can continue to reach their full potential in life.
