Canberra Day is a time to celebrate community and the powerful impact of giving where you live. Through the Canberra Day Appeal, you can help local children with hearing loss access the early intervention they need to grow, learn, and thrive at The Shepherd Centre.
Meet Charlotte and Willow
Sisters Charlotte and Willow are part of that story. Both girls were born with hearing loss and now wear hearing aids. With support from The Shepherd Centre and the dedication of their family, they are discovering the world in their own unique ways.
Charlotte is already showing her vibrant personality. She loves singing, reading, and crafting, and is growing in confidence every day. Her younger sister Willow is just beginning her journey, exploring the world with curious ears and a big smile.
A Family Determined to Help Their Children Thrive
Their mum, Carlee, grew up with hearing loss herself and remembers the challenges she faced. Today, with the support of The Shepherd Centre in Canberra, she’s determined her daughters will have a different experience, one where they can grow, learn, and have the same opportunities as their hearing peers.
With access to evidence-based early intervention and family support through The Shepherd Centre, Charlotte and Willow are developing the listening, language, and confidence they need to thrive.
The Power of Community Support
Stories like theirs show the true power of community support.
Every donation to the Canberra Day Appeal helps children with hearing loss access the specialised programs, expert clinicians, and family support that make a life-changing difference. These early years are critical for language development, and with the right support, deaf children can develop strong communication skills that carry through school and beyond.
Double Your Impact
Until 20 March 2026, every donation up to $2,500 will be matched by Hands Across Canberra, doubling the impact of every gift.
By giving through the Canberra Day Appeal, the community can help more children like Charlotte and Willow grow, learn, and shine.
