The Shepherd Centre is opening a brand new, state-of-the art centre in Macarthur to support children with hearing loss and their families in South West Sydney.
The Macarthur region, which includes Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly Shire is the fastest growing region of NSW with a population of over 300,000. It is also severely under-serviced, and there is currently no specialized service based in the area to support children with hearing loss.
In 2022, the Australian Government committed $2.5 million, together with the $2.5 million from the NSW Government, to help The Shepherd Centre establish a new fully-equipped modern centre to support deaf children and their families in Oran Park. This facility is expected to support over 2,500 children with hearing loss and their families.
The Macarthur centre will be established as part of the new Oran Park development near Camden, just a short journey from Campbelltown. The new center will open to families in 2024! Currently, we provide basic services from our temporary clinic in the area.
We thank the Australian Government and NSW Government for making a lasting impact on the lives of children with hearing loss and their families.
