Over 40 years ago, Kerrin & Graham walked through The Shepherd Centre’s doors with their 10-month-old son Nathan, facing an uncertain future after his diagnosis of severe to profound deafness. They were welcomed by Annette Shepherd herself, who assured them: “We will support and help you.”
The journey was long and arduous, but with The Shepherd Centre’s structured program, Nathan thrived. He completed his HSC, earned a university degree, and later a trade qualification – developing excellent, clear speech along the way. “The Shepherd Centre gave us the ‘tools’, belief, and strength to support our son to live his life to the fullest,” Kerrin reflects.
Today, they continue their connection with The Shepherd Centre as dedicated supporters, ensuring other families experience the same life-changing support they received all those years ago. Their ongoing generosity helps children with hearing loss reach their full potential and is an incredible legacy of care over decades.
Supporting The Shepherd Centre gives children like Nathan the chance to find their place in the world and gives parents like us the confidence to walk every step of that journey with them. – Kerrin
