We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dame the Hon. Marie Bashir AD.
Dame Marie was a valued past Patron of The Shepherd Centre during her time as Governor of New South Wales and a generous supporter of our mission. She was also a close and longstanding friend of Dr Bruce and Annette Shepherd, founders of The Shepherd Centre, and shared their deep belief in the life-changing power of education and early intervention for children.
Her belief in education and early intervention, and the difference they make in children’s lives, was beautifully captured in the foreword she contributed to our 50-year commemorative book. In it, she referenced Nelson Mandela’s words, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” reflecting her enduring belief in the power of education.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dame Marie’s family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.
