Aleisha is General Manager of Clinical Programs and a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist and practising Speech Pathologist. Aleisha joined The Shepherd Centre in 2003 after completing her Masters in Applied Linguistics at Cambridge University in the UK. Aleisha leads the Senior Clinical team to implement the programs across the centres, through the cross matrix multidisciplinary team of Listening & Spoken Language Specialists, Child & Family Counsellors and Researchers & Assessors. Aleisha is currently undertaking her PhD through Macquarie University and the Hearing CRC on Language Acquisition in Children’s Hearing Loss and is looking forward to this contributing to improved intervention technologies and strategies for progression, and an evidence base for parents to guide their decision making. Aleisha received the 2016 State Finalist Award for leadership in the 2016 NSW Business Chamber Awards. This prestigious award recognizes Aleisha’s leadership in the field of childhood hearing loss, particularly her strong work in research and clinical practice, reflecting her passionate commitment to providing the best outcomes for children and families living with hearing loss.

    Dr Jim Hungerford

    Appointed CEO of The Shepherd Centre in February 2011, Dr Jim Hungerford comes to the role with 30 years’ experience in health sciences. Prior to joining The Shepherd Centre, Jim held CEO positions in Australia and internationally, most recently CEO of Pareto Fundraising. Jim’s prior roles include CEO of Intervet in the United Kingdom, various senior management positions in companies in Germany and in the United States, as well as positions in the biotechnology sector and as a Veterinarian in private practice. In 2018 Dr Hungerford won the NSW Business Chamber’s State Business award for Outstanding Business Leader.

      Nicola Norris

      Nicola Norris is the Director of Fundraising & Marketing at The Shepherd Centre, a role she commenced in 2018. Nicola has been in fundraising for over 18 years and has a strong track record in delivering revenue growth for a number of not-for-profit organisations in Australia including: Amnesty International, Greenpeace and the Heart Foundation. Nicola is responsible for The Shepherd Centre’s clinical marketing strategy as well as generating income from philanthropic donations. She feels privileged to be able to connect generous and caring donors who want to make a difference to a family in need, as well as helping those families find their way to The Shepherd Centre.

        Sandra joined The Shepherd Centre in February 2015 as Director of Operations and Company Secretary. Sandra is responsible for finance, human resources, information technology and systems management, facilities management, risk management and the direction of our Preschool Program. Sandra is a Chartered Accountant having completed her undergraduate degree at Macquarie University and commencing her accounting career in with Ernst and Young and then Grant Thornton. Sandra’s corporate finance roles have included Gucci (in the UK), Panavision Australia Pty Limited and more recently Free TV Australia Limited where she was Director of Finance and Company Secretary. Sandra is passionate about The Shepherd Centre’s work having grown up with an uncle who had cerebral palsy and was deaf. 

        “My uncle was smart, funny and worked until he was 60 but his speech and ability to communicate with people was such a frustration for him. He died in his 70’s a couple years ago having led a fabulously full life and was loved by many but I know his life would have been even more fabulous, and more importantly he would have had the independence that he craved, if The Shepherd Centre has been around for him when he was a child,” says Sandra.

          Nichole is no stranger to realising the positive impacts that early intervention strategies provide, with her family advocating for children with disabilities to be included in mainstream schooling for over 30 years. After completing her Degree at Wollongong University and gaining her qualifications as a Chartered Accountant, Nichole has spent over 25 years in both in the commercial and public accounting sectors.  Nichole also suffers from hearing loss. When you combine this with her passion for finance, disability services and community support, The Shepherd Centre is a perfect fit for Nichole to balance all of these within her role as Financial Controller.

            Alyshia began her career in the not-for-profit sector at Royal Blind Society, where she discovered a passion for using data to inform business decisions – this has guided her career ever since. Joining The Shepherd Centre in April 2011, Alyshia was tasked with the implementation of a fundraising and a clinical database to support the business. She acted as project manager for the clinical database, working closely with expert clinical staff to develop and launch the software in August 2012. Today Alyshia is responsible for information, databases and quality assurances, and is an integral part of the clinical and fundraising teams.

                  Karen Bate is our Principal Manager of Audiology and also the Director of our First Sounds Implant program. Karen has worked at The Shepherd Centre since 2016.

                    Joanna is the Principal Listening and Spoken Language Manager at The Shepherd Centre and is a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist and practising Speech Pathologist. Joanna joined The Shepherd Centre in 2007 after completing her Masters of Speech and Language Pathology at Macquarie University. Joanna feels very proud to work in an environment that supports each family’s vision for their child while continually breaking new ground in supporting children with hearing loss.

                      Ingrid Steyns is the Principal Clinical Learning & Development at The Shepherd Centre. Ingrid completed a Bachelor of Behavioural Health Sciences majoring in Rehabilitation Counselling and a Masters in Speech and Language Pathology at The University of Sydney, Australia. Ingrid is a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT®) and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence as a Speech Language Pathologist. Ingrid’s clinical experience encompasses working in settings alongside paediatric audiologists and child and family counsellors, providing cochlear implant evaluation, diagnostic assessment and therapeutic intervention services for individuals with hearing loss and their families. Ingrid has a keen interest in working towards the best outcomes for individuals with hearing loss and their families. Ingrid has developed international training programs and mentored professionals in the field throughout the world, and has presented at numerous international conferences and workshops worldwide. Ingrid is currently on maternity leave.

                        Danielle is the Digital and Regional Development Manger at The Shepherd Centre. Danielle joined The Shepherd Centre in 2007 after working as a Speech Pathologist in a variety of community health and hospital settings. Danielle is a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist and Speech Pathologist. Danielle manages the LSL team in Wollongong and has a keen interest in equity of access to service for all families for children with a hearing loss. This interest led to management of the Online Telehealth System and Outreach Programs for families across NSW, ACT and Tasmania. Danielle is now developing digital programs to support families with children living with hearing loss in accessing critical intervention in any location using a digital platform.

                          Sharon is the Director, Clinical and Government Compliance and has been a practising Speech Pathologist with children with disabilities for 20 years. Sharon was previously the Principal Manager Listening and Spoken Language Therapist at The Shepherd Centre. Sharon has a strong interest in public health and policy and completed her Masters of Health & International Development in 2006. She has worked for a number of national and international non-government organisations including Australian Red Cross & UNICEF. Her expertise in policy is being utilised through the lead out of the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme for the organisation. Clinically, Sharon continues to have a special interest in the use of technology for children with communication difficulties.

                            Stephanie is the Regional Manager for the Liverpool and Macarthur regions and is one of the Child and Family Counsellors at The Shepherd Centre. She is an experienced Social Worker and manager, graduating from UNSW in 2006. Since then, she has worked extensively with families and with children who have a disability, across a broad range of diagnoses. She is passionate about supporting families through the diagnosis journey and ensuring children and families get the services they need.

                                    Jo Wallace is the Senior Marketing & Communications Manager at The Shepherd Centre. She has worked with the organisation since 2015 and with her team oversees The Shepherd Centre’s branding, marketing and communications for both the fundraising and clinical departments.

                                      Angela joined The Shepherd Centre in 2016 and manages the Key Relationships team; building meaningful, long term partnerships with trusts, foundations and individual major donors.

                                      Angela was inspired to pursue a career in the philanthropic sector having experienced firsthand the impact it makes on individual lives.  Whilst teaching English in Japan Angela raised funds for Habitat for Humanity and travelled to Papua New Guinea to help build a house for a family.

                                      Angela has worked in the not-for-profit sector for over a decade; primarily in a consulting role, managing fundraising campaigns for schools and universities across Australasia and the UK, including Oxford University where she obtained her degree.

                                        Joanne is the Senior Individual Giving Manager working within the Fundraising and Marketing department, she joined The Shepherd Centre in 2013. Joanne and her team work to recruit new donors to support the vital work of The Shepherd Centre and also regularly update our existing donors on how their donations make a difference to children with hearing loss.
